KURe Grant Recipients

KURe grant recipients

Lindsay Hampson, MD and Adriane Sinclair, PhD are the most recipients of the Multidisciplinary K12 Urologic Research (KURe) Career Development Program aimed at advancing young careers. These KURe scholars follow a long line of talented junior faculty from diverse disciplines who are interested in pursuing careers in the study of benign urological diseases.

Dr. Hampson is a clinical urologist based at the San Francisco Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and the UCSF Parnassus campus. She will utilize funds from the grant for outcomes research focusing on financial incentives in healthcare, improving value and quality in healthcare, and adult and transitional genitourinary reconstruction. In concert with UCSF pediatric urologists, she is starting up a transitional urology clinic to serve young adults as they transition from pediatric to adult care for congenital urological conditions. Grant funds will help to understand this population in terms of the state of their care, their future needs, and their treatment preferences.

Dr. Sinclair is a bench scientist based in the Baskin Lab with research focused on development of the external genitalia. Specifically, how alterations in the balance of hormones during development disrupts the morphology of the external genitalia. Says Dr. Sinclair, “this grant has allowed me to bring in techniques such as in situ hybridization to investigate the genes involved in normal genital development and what role they may play in disorders such as hypospadias."

Laurence Baskin, MD, Professor and Chief, Pediatric Urology and principal investigator of the Baskin Lab and the KURe grant underscores the importance of early funding on young careers, “This grant helps junior faculty develop into independent investigators, and ensures they become our academic leaders of tomorrow.”
